LRPG Teams Lally with Edwards for Lime Rock Park
May 31, 2010

Leighton Reese, looking for three straight in Grand-Am Rolex GT competition at Lime Rock Park, has teamed Andy Lally, of Dacula, Georgia, with Paul Edwards in the #07 Mobil 1/AirJax.Com Chevrolet Corvette for Monday’s Memorial Day Classic.  Both Edwards (2008 driving the Leighton Reese Performance Group Pontiac GXP.R) and Lally (2006) are former Grand-Am GT driver’s champions.

Team owner Reese was scheduled to fill in for Scott Russell, who usually co-drives with 2008 Grand-Am GT champion Paul Edwards but was unavailable for this race. When a driver of Lally’s capability and experience became available he jumped at the chance to get Lally into the #07 Corvette.

“Scott Russell does TV commentary for SPEED TV and has a motorcycle race to cover this weekend. He realizes that his broadcasting career will more than likely outlive his driving career so he had to prioritize to that deal,” said Reese.  “I was going to drive just out of simplicity.  I love Lime Rock and I won my last time out here (in 2007) but we got the opportunity to have Andy come help us out and I thought, ‘what would Roger (Penske) do’.  When you get the chance to put two of the best drivers out there, Paul Edwards and Andy Lally, in the car together you just have to do it.”

Lally is scheduled to qualify the #07 Corvette later today and will hand the car over to Edwards to finish the race.

“This is Paul’s deal so I will start and turn the car over to him to finish the race,” said Lally.  “This is great.  Things came together at the very last minute and it’s a pleasure to finally get a chance to race for my buddy Leighton. We've known and raced against each other for years but never on the same team.  Having Paul as a co-driver will be awesome too, we've been teammates before but in different cars and to be paired up with such a fast guy is obviously a great thing. I’m coming into this race fourth in points and we just won the last race at VIR and it would have been tough to sit this one out, I'm very thankful and appreciative for the opportunity."

Lally and Edwards have each won at Lime Rock Park and they are looking to give Leighton Reese Performance Group their third straight Rolex GT win on Monday afternoon. You can follow along LIVE on SPEED at 2pm EST Monday, May 31st.
